About me
Stephanie A. Budwey is the Assistant Professor of the History and Practice of Christian Worship and the Arts at Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville, TN, where she also serves as Director of the Religion in the Arts and Contemporary Culture Program. Her teaching and research focus on the relationships between social justice issues, liturgy, and the arts. Stephanie is an active member of The Hymn Society and currently serves as the Director of Research. She has presented lectures and papers throughout North America and Europe, and she has publications on such topics as intersex and theology (including Religion and Intersex: Perspectives from Science, Law, Culture, and Theology from Routledge, 2022), Marian congregational song (including Sing of Mary: Giving Voice to Marian Theology and Devotion from Liturgical Press, 2014), and queer hymnody (including Queering Congregational Song: Past Celebrations, Current Resources, and Hopes for the Future in the forthcoming collection Queering Christian Worship, Reconstructing Liturgical Theology). She currently serves as Organist/Parish Musician at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Nashville.
